In 2013, the Engineering and Physical Sciences branch of Suffrage Science was launched to celebrate and unite the voices of twelve leading women scientists and communicators in the engineering and physical sciences, which relate to medicine.
A study by the Institute of Physics in 2012 showed that women make up only six percent of physics professors in the UK. The Suffrage Science scheme aims to change this.
The two winning jewellery designs, by Lola Lou and Diana Dong. Green peridot, purple amethyst and white moonstone minerals are embedded in Lou’s pendant (left). Dong says her brooch (right) is inspired by “the strength, belief and courage that exist deep within each woman’s heart.”
